VantraLearnSupport and Resistance Levels Explained

What are support and resistance in stock analysis?

Support and resistance are price levels where a stock has historically had difficulty moving below (support) or above (resistance). They're core concepts in technical analysis and are used to identify potential entry points, stop levels, and price targets.

What is support?

Support is a price level where demand has historically been strong enough to prevent the price from falling further. When price approaches support, buyers tend to step in — either because the level is seen as undervalued, or because traders with stop-losses set just below the level create a self-fulfilling price floor.

What is resistance?

Resistance is a price level where supply has historically been strong enough to prevent price from rising further. When price approaches resistance, sellers tend to increase — either because holders are taking profits, or because short-sellers enter, creating a price ceiling.

How Vantra computes support and resistance

Vantra computes pivot-based support and resistance levels from the last 60 trading sessions. The support level is derived from recent swing lows; the resistance level from recent swing highs. Both are updated daily from real OHLCV data and shown relative to the current price — including how far the current price is from each level as a percentage.

Frequently asked questions

Can support become resistance and vice versa?

Yes — this is called 'role reversal.' When a support level is broken decisively (price closes below it on significant volume), it often becomes resistance on subsequent rallies. Similarly, when resistance is broken to the upside, it frequently becomes support. This is one of the most reliable patterns in technical analysis.
